The Foundation for Education and Research on Mental Illness is currently working on a novel approach to increasing the effectiveness of treatments for bipolar disorder. Drs. Frederick Goodwin and Daniel Lieberman are developing a program to increase patient adherence to their psychiatric medication, which in turn should reduce the negative impact bipolar disorder has on families. What they are designing is an innovative web-based approach to psychotherapy / education that not only should enhance adherence but provide a cost-effective highly individualized intervention available to thousands of patients simultaneously. The goal of the program is to give patients the tools they need to take control of their lives.
